I believe that a world class education is foundational for the future success of American children in every area – personal, occupational and civic. Of course every politician says something like this.

What guides my educational commitments is the belief that parents are best equipped to guide their children’s education, that local communities provide the most responsive direction, and that the proper role for government is to provide standards that measure excellence and facilitate first-rate educational opportunities.

Whether a child's education comes through a well-performing public school, an innovative charter school, or a private school made available through vouchers, I believe that the more options available to families, the greater the opportunities for our children and our nation. Government assists best when it stands in the background - resourcing the parents and local professionals that are most committed to and capable of teaching our children.

Education isn’t just a talking point - it is a thirteen year window we have to give each child the tools and skills to succeed. They deserve the greatest opportunity we can give them to reach their potential, and I will work to give them that opportunity.
